This is the final week for the four waterfront waterfalls created by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson for the Public Art Fund, which plans to turn them off on Monday, Oct. 13. Often, steady winds blew the falling water inland away from the tower instead of into the East River so that it showered nearby buildings and cars on the BQE below the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. This waterfall and another beneath the Brooklyn Bridge were the source of salt water-containing mists that damaged nearby trees and shrubs, turning leaves brown in the middle of the summer.
