Several hundred union carpenters and tradesmen rallied against Pratt Institute Monday evening, citing Pratt’s “refusal to use safe, efficient union labor” at a large construction project on Myrtle Avenue. The demonstration, at the corner of Hall Street and DeKalb Avenue, was organized by Carpenters Local 926 and the Brooklyn Board of Building Trades.
“By refusing to build union, the school is lowering local standards of living and putting Brooklyn citizens out of work,” said Local 926 President and rally organizer Sal Zarzana. “Pratt thinks they can get away with taking the cheap way out and taking away our jobs, and we’re going to show them and everyone else that we won't just sit back and watch it happen.”
