Congressman Weiner Takes Mobile Office to Mill Basin Key Food

MILL BASIN — At 10 a.m. yesterday morning, Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn/Queens) opened up his Mobile Community Office at 6620 Ave U in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, for one hour to speak with constituents.

They came out in droves, some knowing that he’d be there, and some thinking he was doing some early-morning shopping at Key Food. The people who knew of his arrival had prepared well, some coming with literature about their concerns.

Topics brought to Rep. Weiner’s attention were varied, ranging from Social Security and Medicare issues to community — related matters like tree-trimming and zoning problems. He dealt with each request, and took names and numbers to get back to each person about a resolution.

“This is fun, I enjoy this,” said Weiner, adding, “So much of what government needs to do is reduce the gap between legislatures and citizens. Maybe people don’t go to town hall meetings or they wouldn’t think to call me up about a problem so sometimes you have to go to them, and that’s what this is about.”
