Raise Money for the Brooklyn Public Library by Donating Your Old Books
Clearing out your book shelves this weekend? If not, now is the time. But don’t put those dusty old volumes out on the stoop, because this weekend they can really make a difference. Drop your books off at The Great American Book Drive on Saturday at the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza.
Better World Books, a for-profit social enterprise that collects and sells books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide, is kicking off a national campaign in Brooklyn.
Since its founding in 2003, Better World Books has raised $4.7 million for its non-profit literacy, library and college partners; diverted more than 6,500 tons of books from landfills; achieved 2,400 tons of carbon offsets through carbon-neutral shipping, and created more than 160 full-time jobs with meaningful benefits.
So between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, you can drop off your books to the plaza in front of the library, and better World Books will sell them online, with the proceeds going back to the library and other literacy programs.
The book drive this weekend will also include green arts and crafts activities for kids and live music featuring the band Lost in the Stacks.
