Quirky W’burg Museum Sponsors ‘Miss G Train’
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 11-03-2009

Pageant Is Based on Old ‘Miss Subways’ Contest

WILLIAMSBURG -- In celebration of its current exhibition of the old “Miss Subways” contest, the City Reliquary Museum is pleased to present the first-ever Miss G Train Pageant.

Miss G Train celebrates the illustrious history of the Miss Subways pageant -- with a contemporary twist.

The G train, which runs through Williamsburg as well as a half-dozen other Brooklyn neighborhoods, is charmed and maligned, adored by some and loathed by others, and never goes express. At just four cars long, it’s dwarfed by its bigger and better known cousins. The G train is the only train line in the New York City subway system that does not pass through Manhattan, although it carries thousands of New Yorkers within Brooklyn and part of Queens.

Located near the Metropolitan Avenue stop on the aforementioned G train, the City Reliquary embraces the unsung histories and quirky collections of New York and New Yorkers with a spirit of civic service.

The pageant will be open to New Yorkers of all ages and genders. To enter, please submit a photograph of yourself, along with a 200-word essay about the G train and why you wish to be its ambassador.

Send your entry and photograph to missgtrain@cityreliquary.org by Nov. 13. On Nov. 19, all participants will participate in the pageant, to be held at the City Reliquary, from 8 to 10 p.m., complete with sashes and celebrity judges.

The City Reliquary is located at 370 Metropolitan Ave. For more information, log on to www.cityreliquary.org.
