Sylvia Kanter, widow of the late Abe Kanter, with son Danny Kanter and his wife Monica, pictured at the recent Third Avenue Festival, are anticipating the outcome of the city process that seeks to rename one of two streets “Abe Kanter Way.” It would honor the memory and work of Kanter, who died at 88 in June, at the corner of 65th Street and Fourth Avenue by The Towers of Bay Ridge where he lived.
A World War II veteran who served from 1940 to 1945, he was founder and president of the Ovington AARP Chapter in the 1990s, a 68th Pct. auxiliary cop once named Top Auxiliary Cop of the Year, a 68th Pct. Council member, a local Jewish War Veterans chapter member and president, and a Boy Scouts leader.
