Daily News columnist Dennis Hamill recently attacked the planned Long Island College Hospital-SUNY Downstate merger, calling it a “backroom deal.” While acknowledging that the previous LICH-Continuum arrangement was problematic, he quotes LICH doctors to the effect that the medical staff was never consulted on the Downstate deal. He charged that Continuum devised the deal after LICH was “driven into the ground” financially, and predicted that state Attorney Gen. Andrew Cuomo would closely scrutinize the plans.
