JAY STREET – An undercover drug investigation in Clinton Hill has led to the seizure of $10,000 worth of crack cocaine and the indictment of 11 people, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.
The alleged Clinton Hill drug ring was selling crack cocaine and marijuana near the intersection of Putnam and Grand avenues – on the street, in an apartment building, and out of local businesses, according to information distributed by the Kings County D.A.’s Office at a press conference Tuesday.
Video footage played at the press conference that was filmed via hidden camera shows an undercover officer making a buy from one of the dealers allegedly involved in the ring.
“These drug dealers thought they could take over the neighborhood, selling poison on the street and in the hallways of an apartment building, sometimes in view of school children,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes. “Thanks to the work of the NYPD and the prosecutors in my Major Narcotics Bureau, these defendants will not be dealing anything for a long time.”
Undercover officers infiltrated the alleged drug-selling ring as part “Operation Grand Slam,” which began several months ago as part of a joint investigation between the NYPD and the Brooklyn D.A.’s Office, stemming from complaints by community members.
Search warrants were executed on Oct. 29, and 75 grams of crack, with a value of $10,000, were recovered in a local barber shop. Two t-shirt stores were also searched and found to have two guns and almost two pounds of marijuana. A third gun was found in the home of one store’s manager.
The 11 defendants, named in four indictments, face top charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon. Several defendants are also charged with conspiracy.
