‘Holiday in Windsor Terrace’ a Success
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 12-15-2009

Campaign Urged Residents To `Shop Local’

WINDSOR TERRACE -- The first “Holiday in Windsor Terrace,” a shop-local campaign created by the Windsor Terrace Alliance (WTA) in collaboration with the merchants of Prospect Park West, was met with sunny skies, smiling faces, and a good dose of Brooklyn cheer provided in part by Borough President Marty Markowitz.

Chilly shoppers stopped by the WTA’s table for free hot chocolate and to pick up a directory of the day’s free events, discounts and menu specials at participating Prospect Park West restaurants and shops. Favorites included the tasting of seasonal liqueurs and bourbons at Windsor Wine Merchants (a shop famous in the neighborhood for restoring the classic “Candy-Soda-Ice Cream” stained glass of the shop’s former owner), Windsor Café’s endless supply of delicious hot chocolate, and Churchview Hallmark’s special on kids’ art supplies.

Other participating businesses were: Babbo's Books, Clemens, The Double Windsor, Elora's, Enzo's, Fez Art Cafe, Hot Diggity Dog, Park West Vision, Le Petit Paris Bistro, Sushi Yama, Windsor Shoes and Windsor Shoes Too.

Windsor Terrace Alliance board members were joined by Borough President Markowitz, Councilman-elect Brad Lander, Community Board 7 Chairman Randy Peers, and Veronica Aveis from Rep. Yvette Clarke’s office.

One participating restaurateur explained their participation: "Everyone's hurting in this economy. Now it's time for us to give back to the neighborhood."

The Windsor Terrace Alliance (WTA) is a non-profit agency formed in the fall of 2007 by a few neighbors concerned about the shortage of local middle schools. Over the past two years, the WTA has expanded to address other issues including traffic and personal safety, monitoring appropriate residential development and encouraging commercial revitalization, encouraging neighborhood beautification and improving quality of life.
