Good morning. Today is the 132nd day of the year. It is the birth anniversary (1907) of Katharine Hepburn, American actress who won four Oscars, including Morning Glory in 1933; Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner in 1967; The Lion in Winter in 1968 and On Golden Pond in 1968. She is also remembered for her on- and off-screen collaboration with Spencer Tracy. Together, they made nine films, including Adam’s Rib and Woman of the Year.
Other well-known people who were born today include composer Burt Bacharach (“Walk on By,” “Close to You,” “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”), Hall of Fame baseball player Yogi Berra; actress Kim Geist; artist Frank Stella and musician-singer Steve Winwood.
MONA LISA, MONA LISA
An application by the Mona Lisa Café at 1476 86th St. to enlarge an unenclosed sidewalk café will highlight the next public meeting of Brooklyn Community Board 11, scheduled for tomorrow.
Board 11 represents the Gravesend area.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
TRANSIT FORUM in Fort Greene
This Thursday, Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries will hold a town hall-style community forum on transit issues from area residents at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 279 Lafayette Ave. at Washington Avenue.
Among the topics on the agenda will be the termination of the B25 bus, which serves many seniors as its traverses Fulton Street. Opponents of the line say that it duplicates the A and C subway route.
In addition, says Jeffries, central Brooklyn is seeing a large population boom. The G train must be preserved at current levels, he says, because it is the main conduit for many parts of central Brooklyn.
It is also the main route for commuters from Greenpoint to Long Island City, who then transfer to subway routes that enter Manhattan.
The forum is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Councilman John Liu, chair of the City Council Transportation Committee, will also address the meeting.
