Brooklyn Today: Tuesday July 21, 2009
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 07-21-2009

Good morning. Today is the 202nd day of the year. It is the birth anniversary (1899) of American author Ernest Hemingway. He is famous for his novels, including The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea. He also is known for his “macho” activities such as big-game hunting and running with the bulls. He also served as a war correspondent during both world wars and the Spanish Civil War.

Well-known people who were born today include singer-songwriter Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam), political cartoonist Garry Trudeau, comedian Robin Williams (Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting) and former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno.
