Brooklyn Today: Monday, September 21, 2009
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 09-21-2009

Good morning. Today is the 264th day of the year. On this day in 1957, “Perry Mason,” starring Raymond Burr as criminal lawyer Mason, first aired on television. Mason had earlier been portrayed by another actor on the radio, but Burr became synonymous with the character in viewers’ minds. The show also starred Barbara Hale as Mason’s secretary, William Hopper as Detective Paul Drake and William Talman as District Attorney Hamilton Burger. The show lasted until 1966, after which Burr moved on to the detective show “Ironside.”

Well-known people who were born today include singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen (“Suzanne,” “Chelsea Hotel,” “I’m Your Man”), author Stephen King (Christine, Pet Semetary), comedian Bill Murray (Lost in Translation, Groundhog Day) and U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan.

BROOKLYN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Presents ‘Building the Stimulus Package Into Your Business Plan.’ The topic on the minds of almost every New York City business owner is, “How do I find and qualify for federal and state stimulus money?”

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce has enlisted the help of Ryan Mack of Optimum Capital Management to answer that very question.

On Wednesday, he will lead a discussion including panelists Donnie Gallardo of BOC Capital Corp., Michael Williams of the Touro College Graduate School of Business, and Bruce Niswander of Polytechnic University.

The program will take place between 9 and 11 a.m. at Polytechnic’s Dibner Library, Five MetroTech Center.
