Good morning. Today is the 264th day of the year. On this day in 1957, âPerry Mason,â starring Raymond Burr as criminal lawyer Mason, first aired on television. Mason had earlier been portrayed by another actor on the radio, but Burr became synonymous with the character in viewersâ minds. The show also starred Barbara Hale as Masonâs secretary, William Hopper as Detective Paul Drake and William Talman as District Attorney Hamilton Burger. The show lasted until 1966, after which Burr moved on to the detective show âIronside.â
Well-known people who were born today include singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen (âSuzanne,â âChelsea Hotel,â âIâm Your Manâ), author Stephen King (Christine, Pet Semetary), comedian Bill Murray (Lost in Translation, Groundhog Day) and U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan.
BROOKLYN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Presents âBuilding the Stimulus Package Into Your Business Plan.â
The topic on the minds of almost every New York City business owner is, âHow do I find and qualify for federal and state stimulus money?â
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce has enlisted the help of Ryan Mack of Optimum Capital Management to answer that very question.
On Wednesday, he will lead a discussion including panelists Donnie Gallardo of BOC Capital Corp., Michael Williams of the Touro College Graduate School of Business, and Bruce Niswander of Polytechnic University.
The program will take place between 9 and 11 a.m. at Polytechnicâs Dibner Library, Five MetroTech Center.
CONEY ISLAND NATIVE To Graduate From Fox News Apprenticeship Program.
Today, Jessica Sanoh, a native of Coney Island who currently resides in another area of Brooklyn, will graduate from the Roger Ailes Apprenticeship Program of Fox News.
Jessica was hired in August 2007 as part of the Fox Business Network launch team. She excelled as a production assistant to such a degree that she was nominated for the apprenticeship program.
After joining the program, Jessica worked on her control-room skills. In addition to her work in the control room, Jessica has served as a mentor for new interns.
She has also worked at BET as a production assistant for âThe Black Carpetâ awards show and has served as an intern at NBC Universal.
