Brooklyn Today: Wednesday, November 18, 2009
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 11-18-2009

Good morning. Today is the 322nd day of the year. On this day in 1985, radio shock jock Howard Stern began broadcasting on New York radio station WXRK-FM. Stern quickly became popular, but many people were outraged at elements of his show. The FCC frequently fined his broadcasts. In 2005 Stern ended his show and moved to satellite radio.

Well-known people who were born today include baseball player Gary Sheffield, Brooklyn-born actress Brenda Vaccaro, Cherokee Nation Chief Wilma Mankiller, former football player Harold Moon and actress Andrea Marcovicci.
