Good morning. Today is the 341st day of the year. It is the anniversary of the 1941 bombing of the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, by Japanese aircraft. The raid, which lasted little more than one hour, left nearly 3,000 people dead. Nearly the entire U.S. Pacific Fleet was at anchor and few ships escaped damage. The U.S. had placed an oil embargo on Japan after that country invaded China several years previously.
Well-known people who were born today include singer-songwriter Tom Waits (“Heart of Saturday Night”), announcer Edd Hall, actress Ellen Burstyn and Hall of Fame basketball player Larry Bird.
