by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 12-18-2009

Good morning. Today is the 352nd day of the year. It is the birth anniversary (1912) of Gen. Benjamin O. Davis Jr., World War II hero and the son of the U.S. Army’s first black general. Davis Jr. was the first African-American to graduate from West Point in the 20th Century. He led the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II, and he helped plan the integration of the U.S. Air Force in 1948-49.

Well-known people who were born today include producer-director Steven Spielberg (E.T., Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, The Color Purple), actress Katie Holmes, movie critic Leonard Matlin and singer Christina Aguilera.
