JAY STREET – Pastor Dieuvais Surin was sentenced Monday to about 10 to 40 years at Kings County Supreme Court for repeatedly molesting and abusing a young girl in various locations, such as his van, his apartment, and the church basement.
Surin was convicted on 22 felony counts of sexual abuse in June, after the story of his abuse of an 11-year-old child surfaced. Some church members attended the sentencing.
For each felony, he received 1 and 1/3 years to 4 years. Some of these sentences were set to run concurrently and some consecutively, said court officials.
The final sentence was 10 and 1/3 years to 40 years.
Surin’s defense attorneys have appealed the sentence. If he can post $100,000 bail by tomorrow, he will be released until the hearing for the appeal takes place, but if he cannot afford bail he will be incarcerated until the appeal can occur.
The 72-year-old pastor of the Original Church of God of Prophecy began taking the girl into his van in 1998 and fondling her.
On subsequent occasions over the following year, he made her perform oral sex and various other perverted acts on him. These incidents occurred in the pastor’s van and apartment, and in the basement of the church.
Surin often waited outside the little girl’s middle school in Brooklyn, and on eight occasions he took her into his van and sodomized her.
Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Vincent del Giudice presided over the sentencing.
