BROOKLYN (AP) -- A Consolidated Edison worker died after he was trapped in a manhole explosion in Brooklyn on Thursday.
Con Ed spokesman Elizabeth Clark says the man and another worker were splicing cable at 12:45 p.m. THursday afternoon when the explosion occurred in the borough's East New York section.
The fatally injured worker was trapped in the manhole for more than an hour. The second man was taken to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center; his condition was not immediately known.
The cause is being investigated.
Con Edison said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by today's tragedy in Brooklyn involving two of our employees."
