JAY STREET (AP) — A report by New York City Buildings Department inspectors links faulty maintenance to an elevator malfunction that led to the death of a 5-year-old boy.
Jacob Neuman was killed in the Aug. 19 public housing accident in South Williamsburg. The little boy fell into the shaft as he tried to get out of the stuck elevator.
The Brooklyn district attorney is investigating. The Housing Authority has declined to comment.
The report says it appears the power shutdown and the opening of the elevator door were caused by the misalignment and wear and tear of electrical contacts in the motor room control panel.
