On Wednesday, investigators from the city’s Fire Department continued to investigate an early-morning fire that damaged five houses on Lafayette Avenue — one of them owned by state Sen. Eric Adams but rented to others. Some 27 people were left homeless in the blaze, and three people suffered minor injuries.
“I want to express my great relief that every resident of my rental property and of each of the other four buildings escaped the flames with their lives,” said Adams. “My heart goes out to those, including firefighters, injured in the blaze.
Fire officials speculated that the blaze may have been sparked by electrical problems, and some onlookers said they heard explosions right before the fire.
