Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn and Queens), new Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), and Representative Albio Sires (D-NJ) visited the Statue of Liberty's crown Friday. Rep. Weiner has led the fight to re-open Lady Liberty's crown, urging Interior Secretary Salazar to provide public access to the crown, which has been closed since the 9/11 attacks. Weiner, Paterson Visit Iraq

Representative Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn and Queens), along with Gov. Brooklyn Veteran Donates Art to VA Hospital Here

BAY RIDGE — A Brooklyn veteran recently donated a work of art to the Brooklyn campus of the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, otherwise known as the Brooklyn VA Hospital.

Actually, it was the second piece of art that Morris “Mike” Greenstein created specifically for the facility. The first piece he donated to the hospital in 1995 was of Lower Manhattan, with the Twin Towers prominent in the skyline. Greenstein works with mixed media, {read more...}





Brooklyn Narcotics Officer Killed in Afghanistan

An NYPD officer was killed Wednesday by a roadside bomb while serving in Afghanistan with the Army National Guard. Deon Taylor, 30, lived in the Bronx and worked as an undercover narcotics officer in Brooklyn.

On Wednesday, July 30, the local unit of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps. (USNSCC), the Capodanno Division located in Staten Island, honored the Bay Ridge Rod & Gun Club (BRRG) for its service and dedication to the youth of our community.

Under a hot summer sun, Senator Marty Golden and about 175 patriotic Bay Ridge residents and veterans braved the heat to mark the Flag Day commemoration on Saturday, June 14.

BROOKLYN — WCBS weekend anchor Steve Bartelstein told the crowd about the importance of nurses in cancer care.

Hundreds Bid Col. Nicholson a Fond Farewell

BROOKLYN -- On June 10, 2008, at approximately ten hundred hours, a command change occurred at the United States Army Garrison at Fort Hamilton. On the historic bluff overlooking the lower Narrows, with the beautiful Verrazano-Narrows Bridge as a backdrop, Colonel Tracey E. Nicholson relinquished command to incoming commander Colonel Stephen V. Smith by handing off the Garrison Flag.
