Caribbean Comes To Brooklyn
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 06-24-2009

Borough Hall Plaza was packed Wednesday for the fourth annual Caribbean-American Heritage Month. There were booths and musical performances outside, with a food-tasting event scheduled for later in the day. Here, Telma Lobo of Conjunto Folklorida sells items from Panama. Inside Borough Hall, an awards ceremony honored Justice Sylvia Hinds-Radix; Fay Rodney, publisher of New York Carib News; Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus, ambassador-at-large from Grenada; and calypso legend The Mighty Sparrow. Seven Caribbean nations, from Belize to Trinidad, participated in the event. It was sponsored by Borough President Marty Markowitz and Deputy Borough President Yvonne Graham.
