Pet owners and their pets — wearing red ponchos, T-shirts and bandannas — braved the drizzle in Brooklyn Heights this past Saturday morning to take part in the third annual K9K Pet Cancer Awareness Walk, sponsored by Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI).The four kilometer walk took participants from Cadman Plaza Park over the Brooklyn Bridge and back. Speakers included VPI President and CEO Dennis Drent and Animal Cancer Foundation Executive Director Barbara Cohen. "The walk will help raise money to support the Animal Cancer Foundation," said Julianne Evenhus, a Veterinary Field Educator with VPI. Pet cancer is the nation's number one disease-related killer of dogs and cats.
