WILLIAMSBURG — A grand opening is planned Thursday for The Edge, a massive new condominium development with close to 1,100 units of luxury housing under construction on a 7.5-acre waterfront site in Williamsburg.
With an interest list of more than 1,000 names, the opening event —planned for Thursday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Music Hall, 66 N. 6th St. — is bound to be well attended.
“The Edge is a full-service condominium with an amenities package unrivaled in Brooklyn or in New York City as a whole,” said developer Jeffrey Levine of Douglaston Development, in a published statement, who sees it as “revitalizing” the northern Williams-burg waterfront.
An indoor pool with an outdoor deck, approximately 35,000 square feet of additional amenities space, and its proximity to the recently opened East River State Park, are among the elements making it unrivaled. It is also the first major development in Brooklyn to incorporate LEED Certification, an environmentally friendly option.
Designed by The Stephen B. Jacobs Group, The Edge is comprised of three residential buildings containing 1,085 luxury condos with 60,000 square feet of retail space, below-grade parking for 700 cars, and approximately 1.75 acres of open space. The latter will include parkland, an Olympic-quality aquatic center, esplanade and piers with a water taxi landing.
With construction of its first two towers underway, Phase One will offer a total of 575 units to be ready for occupancy in late summer 2009, as follows:
• South Edge, a 30-story tower at 22 N. 6th St. with 370 units ranging in size from 490-square-foot studios to 2,075-square-foot three bedrooms.
• North Edge, a 15-story building at 34 N. 7th St. with 205 residences ranging in size from 570-square-foot studios to 2,275-square-foot three bedrooms.
Prices for the units will range from $420,000 to $3 million.
The building’s architects, along with the interiors by Andi Pepper, are offering residents “eco-friendly homes, spacious layouts, sumptuous finishes, private outdoor space and energy-saving appliances,” according to Highlyann Krasnow, executive vice president of The Developers Group, who is handling sales and marketing.
Krasnow believes the Edge is “one of the most exciting communities ever conceived” for Brooklyn.
According to Levine and Krasnow, the Edge’s 40,000-square-foot amenity space will be managed by American Leisure Corp., a fitness management and consulting organization.
Besides the year-round, open-air pool with terrace, there will be two fitness facilities, a yoga studio, multi-purpose recreation room, whirlpool, co-ed sauna, Turkish steam bath, heat pit and private treatment rooms, two theater-screening rooms, video game room, a golf simulator, billiards tables, children’s playroom and, for residents’ convenience, hybrid Zipcars, valet parking, and refrigerated storage for FreshDirect deliveries.
The sales center is directly across from the development at 135 Kent Ave. To learn more, visit www.williamsburgedge.com.
