Will Convert Old Williamsburg Manufacturing Building

WILLIAMSBURG — Two Trees Management Co., primarily known as a residential converter of buildings in DUMBO and Downtown Brooklyn, is taking on a hotel conversion in a Williamsburg industrial zone.
First reported on Curbed.com Monday, the property is an old manufacturing building at 80 Wythe Ave. (aka 71 N. 11th St.).
According to an approved Department of Buildings permit application, Two Trees’ principal Jed Walentas proposes to change the use of the existing five-story building and enlarge it to an eight-story, 111-foot-tall, 42,364-square-foot hotel.
A one-story brick building at the northeast corner of the site will be demolished and its existing floor area transposed to the taller one. Thus, there will be no increase in the overall zoning bulk for the property, according to the application.
The architect filing the document is listed as Morris Adjmi Partners, based in Manhattan. A check of its web site reveals the firm is currently constructing a boutique hotel at 145 Perry St. in the West Village. A call to the firm for further details on the Walentases’ Williamsburg hotel project was not returned Monday.
Additionally, a press represenatative for Two Trees in DUMBO told the Eagle that both Jed and David Walentas are “on holiday” this week and not available for comment.
City records show prior owners of the circa-1930 building to be Mill Craft Mfg. and New Castle Fabrics Corp.
