DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A “soft opening” will take place Monday, July 7 at Brooklyn’s newest hotel, the Nu Hotel at 85 Smith St. in Boerum Hill, according to Amanda Hathaway, a spokesperson for owner Hersha Hospitality Management.

“We will open rooms to the public on Monday, opening softly with just one floor of rooms, leading up to being fully operational by the beginning of August,” Hathaway told the Eagle Thursday, adding that the 93-room, four-story hotel will also feature a 24-hour workout facility and a small bar and cafe/restaurant that will serve a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning and a lite tapas menu in the evening.

Hathaway described the hotel as “both chic and artistic — comfortable, not pretentious — and eco-friendly as well.” Eco-friendly means details such as cork floors, recycled teak furniture and organic cotton sheets are included ,along with unique touches like hammocks in some of the suites, chalkboard walls in the bathrooms and family rooms complete with bunkbeds.

Hersha Hospitality Management currently provides asset management services at 14 properties and hotel management services at over 50 hotels, both upscale and mid-scale, in areas like Boston, Hartford, New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, metro Washington, DC, California and Arizona. Among its brand affiliates are the Marriott, Starwood, Hilton and Intercontinental.

As previously reported in the Eagle, Hersha Hospitality Management acquired the hotel portion of the 13-story, 50-unit condominium, The Smith, developed by Boymelgreen Developers in August last year.
