RED HOOK — A new development with five single-family townhouses, each with its own private garage, is on the market in Red Hook.
The development, at 91, 93, 95, 97 and 99 King Street, corner of Richards Street, is a project of Gino Vitale of Vitale Builders also in Red Hook, who took a one-story garage as the base of the building and, with a vertical enlargement, created the five attached homes.
Reached late Wednesday, Vitale said he designs all of his buildings — all of them in Red Hook.
“I don’t leave Red Hook,” said the Brooklyn native, who owns The House of Pizza and Calzones on Union Street and has been building homes in that community for the past 12 years.
His inspiration for this one came during a recent trip to Europe.
“I was actually in Tuscany and drving through the countryside to Florence and I kept seeing these old carriage houses and thought they would be great in Red Hook,” he said. “I think it’s a nice look.”
Mary Gaglio, a broker with Manzione Real Estate LLC, who has the exclusive listings, agrees.
“The building is very beautiful and very unique,” she said. “Gino Vitale has been a major developer in this area in the last few years, and builds quality brick buildings with top-of-the-line finishes.”
The asking prices range from $750,000 to $1.3 million The homes all have brick façades, skylight-lit living areas and a full package of high-end appliances.
There is one one-story two-bedroom/two-bath unit and four three-story homes with two-to-three bedrooms and two-to-three baths featuring set-back roof terraces and master bedroom suites with views of the Manhattan skyline and the harbor.
Vitale, who has built more than 100 apartments and plans 20 more similar carriage house-style homes, also believes they offer great spaces for artists with their 16-foot ceilings, large rooms and large windows.
They are within three weeks of being completed, he said, and one is in contract.
Gaglio is showing the homes by appointment. She can be reached at (718) 834-1440.
