WILLIAMSBURG — David J. Stuart, project director at Meltzer/Mandl Architects, describes his new project at 502 Metropolitan Ave. in Williamsburg as “an extremely intricate project.â€
As previously reported in the Eagle, the project is a 14-story, 200,000-square-foot mixed-use development with 140 rental units and an indoor three-level parking garage.
Said Stuart, “This was an extremely intricate project, as such a mixed-use development requires a creative massing concept for the overall design.
“We had to pay careful attention to every detail to ensure that the site will accommodate all three components. For example, we designed the parking garage to descend into a two-story structure. In this way, the three-story garage will have the appearance of a single-level building and it will not cover up the windows of the adjacent residential building.â€
Anchored by a Duane Reade store (in 13,650 square feet), the building contains an additional 15,300 square feet of retail space on two levels.
According to Amanda Scoblick of Winick, the development will have frontage on three streets with retail storefronts on Keap Street and Metropolitan Avenue. The garage entrance will be on Rodney Street.
According to Stuart, the project team includes Clo-oth of Brooklyn as the interior designer; Severud Associates PC as the structural engineer; and Dagher Engineering, PLLC as the mechanical/electrical engineer.
The developer is 502-510 Met LLC, with Meyer Chetrit named as managing officer.
Completion is slated for 2010, according to Scoblick.
