BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — The developer of the long-empty former 84th Police Precinct property at 72 Poplar St. in the North Heights has a new plan to convert the building and its adjoining garage to residential.
As previously reported in the Eagle in 2007, the developer, Regal Investment Inc., with Bill Punch and Maurice Laboz as partners, had abandoned plans to convert the building after several failed attempts to get approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission — stating that the project was “no longer economically feasible.â€
Community Board 2 Land Use Committee members on Wednesday voted to recomend approval of the new Landmarks application in a 9-0-3 vote, Punch told the Eagle, adding that 30 market rate rental units are planned.
According to Robert Perris, CB 2 district manager, those who abstained did so because “they want to see samples of the materials and a mockup on the rooftop of the proposed addition.â€
It will be considered by CB 2’s executive committee on Monday, April 27.
