Three Bodies Found in Six Months at a Brooklyn Hotel
by Phoebe Neidl (phoebe@brooklyneagle.net), published online 04-25-2008

BROOKLYN -- Three dead bodies in six months have been found at the Best Western Gregory Hotel in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, 8315 Fourth Ave.

Early Friday afternoon, the body of an unidentified Asian female was found at the hotel with a knife in her chest and a suicide note, according to police.

Two months ago, in late February, the body of 52-year-old Paul Mento was found in the same hotel. That death also was ruled a suicide. Mr. Mento asphyxiated himself by wrapping duct tape over his mouth. He did not leave a suicide note.

In December 2007, 26-year-old David Diaz was found stabbed to death in yet another of the hotel’s rooms. In January, police arrested 20-year-old Pamela Hansen for Diaz’s murder.

The hotel, built in the 1920s, was independently owned for more than 60 years. It was vacant for a period, before being bought by the Comfort Inn hotel chain, and then its current owner, Best Western. In the 1980s, the hotel was the site of a four-alarm fire, which left 40 people injured.
