Bay Ridge Eagle
Parkville League Report: Hawks Fly Past Rangers
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 06-24-2010

By Bob Cavaliere

Red Hawks 10 Rangers 3

The Rangers are regarded as one of the most competitive teams in Parkville’s Major Division, according to Red Hawks team manager Gary Chase, who wasn’t taking any chances. He decided to call on “Postman” Jonathan Cohen to pitch against the high-powered offense. The strategy worked, as the Rangers were held scoreless for the first two innings as Cohen kept a steady stream of strikes whistling across the plate. A variety of changeup pitches and a wicked fastball allowed the “Postman” to deliver for his team.

Sadat Hasen took over on the mound for the third and fourth innings and kept the pressure on the Rangers’ batters before giving way to teammate Sami Bibovic. Both relievers were just as effective on the hill.

Besides their strong pitching, the Red Hawks relied on defense as well as timely hitting for the victory. First baseman Bibovic fielded a hot grounder in the third and raced to first for the out. Also in the third, the bases were jammed with one out and the muscle of the Rangers’ line up was at bat. A mean grounder headed up the middle to the mound. Pitcher Hasen fielded the ball and fired to catcher Joe “Shotgun” Sanci for out number two. Sanci, in a heartbeat, saw the runner on first charging for second base. He rifled the ball to second baseman Naim Bibovic for the slick double play.
