Haunted House, Carnival Games — Maybe Even Darth Vader
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 10-17-2008

At Puppetry Arts Theatre’s Haunted Halloween Carnival Celebs Galore at Big Bash for a Good Cause

PARK SLOPE — Don’t miss this one: The Puppetry Arts Theatre’s 3rd Annual Haunted Halloween Carnival is back on Oct. 25 at The Recreation Center of The Children’s School of Park Slope from 12 noon – 5 p.m. and there are no “bones” about it! This “haunting” event is open to every boy and ‘ghoul” with free gift bags filled with tons of “ghostly” goodies for the first 200 kids.

Come jump in the “Send In The Clowns’ Moon Walk,” visit the NYC Fire Safety Patrol, shoot some hoops with the crew from Score Educational Center, try out the trendiest flavors of Snapple, and meet Grimace from McDonalds! The Carnival has many arts and crafts featuring mask and puppet making, carnival games sponsored by Holiday Inn of Park Slope, face painting with the Petpop.com crew, and tons of Trick or Treats!

The Haunted Halloween Carnival is always such a “spooktacular” success hosting tons of activities for less then the price of a movie ticket. “My son came home with more then an arm full of such wonderful prizes,” says Brooklyn resident Joan Smock. “There was so much to do that we spent the whole day there!” Dress up in your most outrageous costume and join the Costume Contest sponsored by Wham-O Toys, and visit the Commerce Bank Haunted House . . . if you dare. There will be visits from the cast of the musical “In A Round About Way,” Brooklyn Cyclone’s Sandy the Seagull, and special appearances by Star Wars Costume Volunteers from Darth Vader’s Finest 501st Regiment and The Echo Base Rebel Legion featuring Stormtroopers, X-Wing Pilots—and perhaps Darth Vader himself! This event will hold a “witch’s brew” of fun and treats from Elope Hats, Cabot Creamery, Arts For All, Museum for African Art, One Brick, Target, Balloon Time, Poland Spring, Gemmy Toys, Gourmet Croissants, Regal Cinemas, NY Methodist Hospital, 4/C, The Skeleton Store, Fifth Ave Merchant Association, Dale and Thomas Popcorn, WPLJ, Morbid Industries, and Kholes.

A silent auction will display autographed memorabilia from The NY Rangers, NY Knicks, NY Giants, Toys, and tickets to the Top of The Rock, NY Skyride, Daisy Mae Soaps, Regal Cinemas and much, much more.

The Haunted Halloween Carnival invites everyone to have a “howling” good time, but to make this “bewitching” holiday more special, TPAT hosts a pre-event Costume Party for children from area shelters, foster care, and hospital programs providing free costumes and gifts for at-risk youth. “This event is very unique to the City,” says Puppetry Arts Executive Director Tim Young, “And it is important to the Puppetry Arts mission to make sure everyone can be a part of it!”

Rain or shine, this indoor event is free all day and is handicapped accessible: $1.00 snacks, games, and activities, $3.00 Bounce House and $5.00 event photo-ops with visiting celebrities. Funding from this event goes directly to community outreach provided by Puppetry Arts, located behind PS 372 of 512 Carroll St. in Park Slope. The Recreation Center is on First Street between 4th and 3rd Ave nearest to the R train at Union St and the F train at 4th Ave.

As a theatre, Arts In Education, and community based nonprofit, the mission of The Puppetry Arts Theatre, Inc. is to offer creative outlets and cultural exploration to all inner city youth and families through the multidisciplinary art of puppetry, building upon youth development and enriching family activity. For more information about The Haunted Halloween Carnival visit The Puppetry Arts Theatre online at www.puppetryarts.org or call (718) 768-3703.
