Bed-Stuy Tour Includes Woolworth, Aaron Copeland, Shirley Chisholm Sites
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 11-24-2009

BEDFORD STUYVESANT — The Municipal Art Society (MAS) will conduct a walking tour of Bed-Stuy on Sunday, Nov. 29.

Conducted by Matt Postal, an architectural historian, the tour begins at Franklin Avenue and Fulton Street.

“As Harlem is to Manhattan, Bed-Stuy is to Brooklyn, a Victorian-era neighborhood that is presently undergoing a dramatic Renaissance,” writes the MAS. Participants will discover some of the finest residential blocks, churches and apartment houses in New York City, as well as visiting sites associated with F.W. Woolworth, Aaron Copeland and Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

The cost is $15, or $10 for MAS members. The group will meet at 11 a.m. outside the turnstiles inside the Franklin Avenue subway station (C or S trains), corner of Fulton Street and Franklin Avenue.
