Poly Prep Summer Programs 2012

Poly Prep Summer programs offer families an outstanding alternative to sleep-away camps. Photo courtesy of Poly PrepFor more than 39 years, Poly Prep has offered an unrivaled summer day camp program.  On a beautiful 25-acre Brooklyn campus, children participate in activities ranging from swimming to softball, from cookouts to ceramics, from picnics by the ponds to performances on stage. Poly also offers supportive academic courses ranging from math to SAT prep.

Music, Dance and Theater at Brooklyn Music School


This summer will be full of music, dance and theater at the Brooklyn Music School in Fort Greene. Children ages 5 and up participate in week-long sessions where they can explore an array of different musical styles and visit cultural institutions and historical landmarks. NYC Parks Experience Summer Day Camp

The NYC Parks Experience Summer Day Camp program is an incredible deal offered by the city’s Parks Department: just $500 per child for the whole summer. Children engage in sports, fitness and outdoor adventure and take part in many of New York City’s rich cultural and educational opportunities. Campers will hike through local parks, learn to play sports, swim in Parks’ pools, travel to museums, engage in environmental education and participate in a wide variety of structured activities.

A camp may be described in nothing less than glowing terms in its brochure. The setting may be absolutely breathtaking, and activities may run the gamut from racquetball to modern dance. In the end, however, it’s the human equation of how those activities are operated and conducted that determines the quality of the camp program.

Get to know the camp director as a person through telephone conversations, correspondence, and a personal visit. Have the director describe the camp’s philosophy and how the staff implements it. Questions to ask the director include:

PARK SLOPE — No more running in the halls.

A track meet of massive proportions was held this past Saturday at the Park Slope Armory, and young Brooklyn competitors who used to race in the halls of their schools got to show their stuff on the armory’s state-of-the-art six-lane, 200-meter track.

St. Joseph’s College Welcomes Woodrow Wilson Fellow Singh-Molares

BROOKLYN — St. Joseph’s College is pleased to announce that Woodrow Wilson Fellow Anil Singh-Molares will visit both its Brooklyn and Long Island campuses during the week of Feb. 27, 2012, where he will deliver public lectures on “Keys to Success in an International World” at 12:40 p.m.

The Long Island Campus lecture will take place in the McGann Conference Center in O’Connor Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and will be followed by a discussion with faculty and students; the Brooklyn Campus talk will be held in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Aside from public lectures, Singh-Molares will spend the week exchanging ideas and sharing his unique insights with students, faculty and administrators on a wide range of issues.

Sunset Park — A woman who guided the education of tens of thousands of children during her more than three decades of service to the New York City public school system was immortalized when a wing at one of the schools where she had served as principal was named after her.

Holy Angels Academy Students Show Pep!

Students at Holy Angels Catholic Academy, 337 74th St., celebrated Catholic Schools Week with a number of fun activities designed to show school spirit and engage the community. In addition to several Open House events, students participated in a “Pep Rally” in the school gymnasium at which they waved flags, held signs and carried banners illustrating their love for their school.Teacher Mary Brannan leads the Pre-K students on a flag-waving march around the gym.
