Fears over future of iconic Brooklyn Heights St. George Hotel called unfounded

The management company running student housing in the historic St. George Hotel has scotched rumors that a change in use was in the works for the building at 100 Henry St. in Brooklyn Heights. One of the colleges that's been placing students there has also denied speculation being spread by a Brooklyn Heights activist who worried that the facility might revert to its former use as a home to subsidized and mentally-ill tenants.

Lutheran Medical Center seeks to educate public on organ donations

Dr. Anthony Geraci, vice president of the Department of Neurology-Rehabilitation at Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park, said he knows from personal experience how a donated organ can prolong a patient’s life.

Geraci’s father underwent a kidney transplant in 1974 and lived for another 37 years. At the time of his death in 2011, Mr. Geraci was one of the longest surviving kidney transplant recipients in the country.


PhD candidate makes complex scientific research sound simple

Tomlinson, a Brooklyn College graduate who is currently studying for his Ph.D in neuroscience at Stony Brook University, recently won the National FameLab USA competition. The contest challenges young scientists to talk about their research in an engaging a manner that could be easily understood by a general audience.



Longtime Brooklyn resident celebrates 100th birthday at the River Cafe

During his 90th birthday party 10 years ago, Ben Rosen’s friend Peter Patterson promised to treat him to dinner at the iconic River Café on the waterfront in DUMBO if he made it to his 100th birthday.

This past Easter Sunday, Patterson kept to his word.

“About five years ago my son asked me, ‘You aren’t really going to make him wait five more years, are you?’” Patterson recalled. “I told him, ‘of course, it will give him something to look forward to.’ Besides, he’s in better health than most of us.”
