Canarsie vigil will mark Superstorm anniversary

Brooklyn residents will mark the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy with an interfaith service and candlelight vigil.

The event will be held Tuesday evening in Canarsie Park.

The ceremony will honor those who died and celebrate the resilience of the community.


Woman dies in 3-vehicle crash in Brooklyn

Police say a woman has died following a crash at a Brooklyn intersection that involved two cars and a tractor-trailer.

The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at Foster and Ralph avenues, in the 63rd Precinct.

The NYPD says the 54-year-old victim collided with a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old man. He was in stable condition at a hospital.

Police say that after the initial crash, the woman's car collided with the tractor trailer as it approached the intersection. The truck driver was not hurt.

The victim's name was not immediately released.


Golden offers free flu shots to senior citizens

If you’re a senior citizen and you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet this season, a Brooklyn lawmaker is giving you a chance to become inoculated against the bug.

State Sen. Marty Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-southern Brooklyn) is joining forces with Coney Island Hospital to offer free flu shots at three locations in his senate district next week.

But there’s a catch. Anyone interested in getting a flu shot must make an appointment by calling Golden’s office at 718-238-6044. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Coalition to rally for jobs at SUNY Downstate on Thursday

Central Brooklyn residents plan to rally to save vital health care services at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in East Flatbush on Thursday.

More than 200 SUNY Downstate employees will be losing their jobs later this month as cash-strapped Downstate restructures.

The rally is being sponsored by the SUNY Downstate Coalition of Faith, Labor and Community Leaders, comprised of Brooklyn-area religious and community organizations and unions representing SUNY Downstate employees.  


Young man in Brooklyn killed by model helicopter

A 19-year-old remote-controlled helicopter enthusiast was killed in a Brooklyn park on Thursday when the helicopter he was flying struck him in the head, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The tragedy occurred around 3:30 p.m. at Calvert Vaux Park in Gravesend, Brooklyn.

Bullet that killed Brooklyn tot was meant for his dad: Cops

Police investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy shot in the head in his stroller said Monday they believe his father was the target.

Authorities have some leads in the killing of Antiq Hennis on a Brooklyn street on Sunday night and believe his death may be gang-related, police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. Antiq's father, Anthony Hennis, has a criminal record and wasn't cooperating with police in their investigation, said Kelly, who didn't elaborate.


1 year old in stroller shot dead in Brownsville

 A 1-year-old boy in a stroller was fatally shot in the face as his parents pushed him across a city street, and police continued looking for the gunman Monday.

Antiq Hennis and his parents were walking across a street in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn at about 7:20 p.m. Sunday when shots were fired and the boy was hit, police said. Investigators have yet to determine who was the intended target, and no arrests have been made, police said Monday.
