BREAKING: SUNY vote on LICH expected by Tuesday

The State University of New York (SUNY) board of trustees is set to vote on Monday or Tuesday on a revised proposal to sell Long Island College Hospital (LICH), in Cobble Hill to Fortis Property Group, insiders have told The Brooklyn Eagle.

SUNY said it had no comment on the vote.

The SUNY board meeting takes place Monday and Tuesday in Albany.


Menchaca takes public oath of office Jan. 12

Councilman Carlos Menchaca has already been officially sworn into office and has cast his first vote in the City Council.

But the freshman lawmaker is planning a public inauguration ceremony and has invited community leaders, business leaders and clergy members in his council district to see him take the oath of office on Sunday, Jan. 12, at Sunset Park High School, 153 35th St., at 1 p.m.


Park Slope’s CB6 approves NY Methodist expansion

After months of design changes and stipulations, on Wednesday night Brooklyn’s Community Board 6 gave its grudging blessing to zoning variances that would allow New York Methodist to build an oversized ambulatory care facility in Park Slope. The motion passed 27 to 4.

The vote came after CB 6’s Landmarks/Land Use Committee gave its conditional approval on Monday.


Fallout from Brooklyn Hospital’s LICH bid continues

Brooklyn Hospital Center’s bid to buy Long Island College Hospital (LICH) and convert it to apartments and outpatient medical facilities, first reported in Crain’s New York and confirmed by SUNY, has drawn vocal opposition from LICH supporters who have been fighting for a year to keep the beleaguered hospital in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn open.

Ambulances back at LICH after water leak repaired

Ambulance service to Long Island College Hospital in Cobble Hill was restored by midday on Thursday after it had been in the recovery room from the effects of an internal water leak on Wednesday around 7 p.m., according to a Fire Department spokesperson.

"There was a water leak inside LICH [Wednesday] night. FDNY ambulances were placed on diversion from approx 7 p.m. last night until 10 a.m. this morning," Frank Dwyer of the FDNY Press Office said on Thursday afternoon.

Brooklyn Hospital Center confirmed late Wednesday a Crain’s New York report that Brooklyn Hospital has put in a bid to buy Long Island College Hospital (LICH), with backing from private capital and a plan to build 1,000 mixed-income apartments.
