Four St. Francis mens basketball players suspended before loss to Robert Morris

Junior Brent Jones, St. Francis’ starting point guard and leader, sophomore Anthony White, freshman Wayne Martin and junior P.J. Santavenere were all suspended indefinitely for a "school matter" on Saturday morning before their game against Robert Morris.

Those events marred the battle for first place in the Northeast Conference, which ended in a 72-50 blowout win for Robert Morris in Brooklyn Heights.


Brooklyn Ice teaches kids to skate at Prospect Park

Brooklyn Ice, a free after-school program that teaches figure skating to Brooklyn kids, has returned to Prospect Park — at the new Lakeside Rink at LeFrak Center. While the rink was under construction, the program used Bryant Park in Manhattan. Brooklyn Ice also includes homework help, pilates/dance, educational activities, workshops on nutrition and more. Three brothers sentenced in Brooklyn Federal Court for international sex trafficking

Three brothers were recently sentenced in Brooklyn’s federal court for the Eastern District of New York to lengthy prison terms after they pleaded guilty to sex trafficking charges.

Benito Lopez-Perez and Anastasio Romero-Perez were sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release. Jose Gabino Barrientos-Perez was sentenced to 10 years and one month of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release.


LICH bidder Brisa disqualified as SUNY board puts off vote

The SUNY board of trustees heard the pitches of four of the five developers competing to buy Long Island College Hospital (LICH) on Friday, but the board made no decision about which proposal it favored in the tumultuous windup of its disputed RFP (Request for Proposals) process.

Board members are facing a contempt hearing in state Supreme Court on Tuesday for their actions in attempting to close the hospital despite numerous court orders to keep it open.


Loughlin loses Mike Williams in big win over Christ the King

It seems like every year no matter how good Bishop Loughlin is that the it will eventually lose to Christ the King. This may be the year the Lions finally take a bite out of the Royals.

The Bishop Loughlin Lions beat the Christ the King Royals 76-74 in front of a packed gym in Fort Greene last Friday night. The Lions took sole possession of first place in the Catholic High School Athletic Association’s Brooklyn/Queens-AA Division.


Developers hype their LICH bids on cable TV

A televised presentation featuring five of the bidders in SUNY’s much-disputed search for a buyer for Long Island College Hospital (LICH) is now available for viewing on BRIC's community access Brooklyn Public Network. (See schedule below.)

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams hosts the presentation. BP Adams said the developer’s forum was put together “in an effort to promote transparency and community engagement in the process determining the hospital’s future.

“The short time frame presents challenges,” he acknowledged.
