Apartment tower headed to site of eyesore 153 Remsen St.

Brooklyn Heights' next new apartment tower will be 185 feet tall – the equivalent of 18 stories.

That's Quinlan Development Group's current thinking for what will replace derelict 153 Remsen St. and two neighboring buildings it bought last year, Eye on Real Estate has heard.

The Upper West Side-based developer can build a tower this tall as of right on the site, which is  outside the  Heights' landmark district.


Artists live on ‘Human Hamster Wheel’ in Williamsburg

Ever feel like you're on a big hamster wheel and you can't get off?

Ward Shelley and Alex Schweder know that feeling all too well. The two performance artists are spending 10 days living, eating and sleeping on a giant hamster wheel to make a larger point: We all have to work together to get through the daily grind.

"I wasn't prepared for this ... perhaps I should have been," Shelley said from atop the wheel, his feet dangling off the side of the 25-foot-tall wood and metal structure.

“Paige In Full,” coming to Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) for its Brooklyn debut on March 14, is a unique brother/sister duo created by Paige Hernandez (writer and performer) and Nick tha 1da (musician).

In the performance, Hernandez expresses herself through the language of hip-hop, mixing spoken word and poetry, dance, and live music with the help of her brother Nick, who provides the musical support for her story.

Duke headlines 2014 Coaches Vs Cancer field in November in Brooklyn

On Nov. 21 and 22, perennial Top Ten team Duke University will join Stanford University, Temple University and the University of Nevada Las Vegasat Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the championship rounds of the 2014 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic®, an annual basketball event hosted by the Coaches vs. Cancer program, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society® and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.  The event will benefit the American Cancer Society to support their mission to save more lives and help finish the fight against cancer.
