This month, the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) celebrated the one-year anniversary of the opening of its multifunctional, innovative technology center, the Shelby White and Leon Levy Information Commons.

That's amore: Closed-down cabaret's building for sale in Red Hook

The new cabaret at 18 Commerce St. was too highbrow to have strippers. It lasted about a nanosecond.

Instead of seeking a new tenant, landlord Salvatore Reale decided to sell the 11,200-square-foot, five-building Red Hook complex where Con Amore Cabaret had been located.

Location, location, location: Artist Brice Marden buys Red Hook lot alongside daughter's home

It's a family affair over on Dikeman Street – and the family in question is a big deal in the art world.

Brice Marden, a renowned painter, and his wife Helen bought a vacant lot at Dikeman and Otsego Street for $661,049 last summer, city Finance Department records reveal – right next to their daughter Mirabelle's house at 17 Dikeman St.

Mirabelle, who's a photographer, made news when she bought the renovated Red Hook carriage house for a hefty $1.55 million in April 2012.

Metal fabricator building new Red Hook HQ with industrial-strength flood protection

There's a lonely little townhouse at 10 Coffey St., surrounded by vacant lots.

But before you know it, the lost-looking building will have a spiffy new next-door neighbor at 20 Coffey St.

That's where two brothers who are Parsons School of Design alums are building a new home for their business, Seetin Design Group, which fabricates high-end decorative metals, architectural metals and millwork.

I'm a believer: Developer Marshall Sohne bets on Red Hook with Dikeman Street 'Passivhaus'

Red Hook's current crop of home builders includes Marshall Sohne, a developer who's been busy of late in the nearby Columbia Waterfront District.

He's at work on a four-story single-family house at 61 Dikeman St. – a site an LLC of his bought for $500,000 five days before Hurricane Sandy struck, city records indicate. Regrets, he's had a few, but then again, too few to mention.

To hell with Hurricane Sandy: Artist Bosco Sodi builds Red Hook home despite flooded studio

Bosco Sodi believes in Red Hook.

Hurricane Sandy trashed the Van Brunt Street studio where he makes hybrid painting/sculptures of vividly hued sawdust – but the artist is building his family home in the neighborhood anyway.

“It's a great area,” said his wife, Lucia Corredor, who's an interior designer. “We just have to build smart and stay prepared.”

New Kid in Town: Est4te Four will Make Brooklyn debut with residential conversion of 160 Imlay St.

Ready, set … go Red Hook.

When will a newcomer to Brooklyn with plans to own more than 1 million square feet of Red Hook industrial properties start apartment sales at 160 Imlay St. – a residential conversion project that stirred years-long opposition?

The developer is Est4te Four (no, that's not a typo), which put up a teaser site before Thanksgiving indicating that sales would start Jan. 1 on apartments at the iconic former New York Dock Co. building.

Now on view at the Brooklyn Historical Society (BHS), “Brooklyn Abolitionists / In Pursuit of Freedom,” is a thought-provoking, interactive new exhibition that uncovers the lesser-known stories of Brooklyn activists who fought for freedom and racial justice in the 19th century. This groundbreaking exhibit will remain on view through December 2018 and will inaugurate the Shellens Gallery in BHS’ newly renovated building at 128 Pierrepont Street in Brooklyn Heights.
