New Eastern District judge celebrates robing ceremony in Brooklyn Courthouse

Brooklyn Federal Judge Pamela K. Chen was sworn in on Friday at an investiture, or robing ceremony, as the newest addition to the United States Eastern District Court.  Chen’s colleagues, mentors, friends, and family all came out to help acknowledge her accomplishments and her successes as she made the transition from trial attorney to federal judge.


Navy Yard CEO Kimball steps down

Andrew Kimball, who was appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2005 as president and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, will be leaving his position at the end of this month to join the real-estate management and asset development firm of Jamestown Partners, the Navy Yard announced.

Tropfest, world’s largest short film festival, to debut in Brooklyn

Brooklyn becomes first borough to require mediation in civil cases

Brooklyn Supreme Court ushered in a new project Thursday requiring all civil cases to pass through a mediation process before proceeding to trial. The first of its kind, the mandatory mediation project hopes to alleviate some the costs and other strains that civil litigation places on Brooklyn’s court system.


LICH supporters demand action by Governor, plan Friday fundraiser

Saying that the life of Long Island College Hospital (LICH) has reached a “critical” moment, supporters of the beleaguered Cobble Hill institution have started a letter-writing campaign to Governor Andrew Cuomo, and will be holding a fundraiser on Friday.

“The Governor needs to take charge. So far, he has refused to meet with our local elected officials,” said the Brooklyn Heights Association in a statement. “We need to show Governor Cuomo that we expect him, as our elected representative, to act in the best interests of the western Brooklyn residential and business community.”


LIU Brooklyn 2013 valedictorian is graduation speaker at his high school GED Program in Staten Island

William Curran, LIU Brooklyn’s Class of 2013 valedictorian, will be the graduation speaker for the high school GED program from which he graduated. The ceremony will take place on June 17.
