A steady drizzle didn't keep revelers from Coney Island's 33rd annual Mermaid Parade.
The colorful parade up the boardwalk Saturday was part of a tradition that marks the start of summer for many New Yorkers.
The event draws tens of thousands of revelers to the beach every year.
Lia Perotta of Brooklyn said she has dressed as a mermaid every year for 10 years. She said the parade is "all about the glitter."
Joe Coddington of Queens was wearing a crab hat and a shirt that said "butter me up."
