12-year-old Brooklyn boy missing, disappeared on the 4th of July

Shawn Martinez, age 12, disappeared on the Fourth of July in East New York, Brooklyn, and hasn’t been seen since. He was last seen on Wortman Avenue, according to the 75th Precinct.

Shawn is 5'5" and 115 lbs. According to News 12, he was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black T-shirt with the words “Call of Duty” written on it and red and blue Adidas sneakers.

Penny Cardona told News 12 her son went to the store and did not come back.


East New York elderly fight displacement

Almost 200 residents of East New York streamed into an underutilized New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) parking lot on Wednesday morning to celebrate the groundbreaking of Redwood Senior Living, a senior housing building that will hold 80 rental units.

Most of the attendees were members of St. Paul Community Baptist Church, across the street, and many lived in nearby NYCHA public housing complexes.

Firm owner charged with abandoning hazardous oil trucks on Brooklyn streets

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe Martens on Friday announced a felony indictment against Patrick McAteer of Morganville, N.J., and Roberto Iengo of Queens for their role in the abandoning five tanker trailers filled with thousands of gallons of waste oil substances. The men face up to 15 years in prison.

Brownsville man arrested for promoting dog fighting

Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes on Tuesday announced the indictment of Leslie Alexander, 39, of Boyland Street, for possessing seven pit bulls with the intent to use them in dog fighting.  

On May 24, NYPD anti-crime officers executed a search warrant at Alexander’s Boyland Street home in search of guns and drugs. While in the house, officers found seven pit bulls and various equipment used to train and condition dogs for fighting.  


Company admits dumping contaminated waste into sewers, must pay $2.8 million

Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes on Friday announced that Jack Abel and Avi Abel, the father-and-son owners of Sepco Industries, Inc. , a subsidiary of Watermark Designs, LLC., pleaded guilty on the corporation’s behalf to a New York Environmental Conservation Law prohibiting the unlawful discharge of industrial waste and for repeated failure to file corporate tax returns.  


NYPD: 10-year-old Canarsie boy grabs intruder's gun, fires

A 10-year-old Canarsie boy picked up a gun that was dropped by a would-be robber dressed as a delivery man and fired a shot, police said Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

Two men in disguise knocked on the door to the house at around 5:30 p.m. Monday, and two teenage sisters opened the door, police said. The intruders pushed past them and went upstairs to the second floor. The owner of the home slammed a second-floor door on one of the would-be robber's arms.

Red Cross gives $1.25M grant to Brooklyn Community Foundation

The American Red Cross in Greater New York, in an outdoor ceremony at Borough Hall Plaza on Wednesday, presented a $1.25 million grant to the Brooklyn Community Foundation to support long-term recovery efforts for people affected by Superstorm Sandy.
