Clark Street eyesore slapped with Buildings Department violations

Eyesore alert!

This, too, is 100 Clark St.

The half-demolished historic house at 100 Clark St. has been slapped with new notices of city Buildings Department violations.

When, O beloved Bossert?

Will the Bossert be back in operation before the snows fly in B'LYN?

Last March, an owner of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District hotel at 98 Montague St. told us he was aiming for a summer re-opening. It's August now, in case you hadn't noticed, and the historic property is not yet ready to receive guests.

The rent for Brooklyn Heights' 'Asphalt Jungle' house is $30,000 per month

There are no asphalt shingles on this house now.

Genteel 113 Willow St., a piece of historic Brooklyn Heights that was built when Andrew Jackson was President, is all fixed up and newly arrived on the leasing market.

The asking rent is $30,000 per month.

That is not a typo.

What's it like inside a home with a price tag like that?

We got a first-hand look. It's very tasteful. And very tranquil.

City Tech students design, build home for 2015 Solar Decathlon competition

In 2012, Superstorm Sandy showed that new models for housing that meet the needs of a high-density urban environment are desperately needed. A team of approximately 60 City Tech students is contributing its solution in a net-zero energy model home, as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's 2015 Solar Decathlon international competition. The model home — built on a donated site at the Brooklyn Navy Yard — will be shipped to California at the end of this month for the final phase of the competition.

There was a whole lot of smoke on Thursday morning at the corner of Joralemon St. and Willow Place in Brooklyn Heights. What looked like an electrical fire broke out, and FDNY firefighters and ConEd workers quickly arrived on the scene to douse the flames.

Lentol heads site inspection of BQE exit

Assemblymember Joseph Lentol and a group of Williamsburg officials and civic leaders joined Brooklyn Transportation Commissioner Keith Bray on site inspections of North Brooklyn roadways that residents have said are dangerous.

The site visits took place Aug. 14 at the intersection of Wythe Avenue and Williamsburg Street West and at the Flushing Avenue exit of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE).

Lentol said the inspections took place so they could determine how to make the roadways safer.

Schumer has extra ticket for Pope’s DC speech

When Pope Francis delivers his historic address before Congress next month, one lucky New Yorker will get to see the speech live, thanks to U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer.

Schumer (D-New York) announced that he received one guest ticket to the event and that his office will be conducting a statewide lottery to determine who will attend the Sept. 24 address.

Schumer said requests are pouring in from all across New York from people trying to see Pope Francis and experience a piece of history.
