Whole Foods: What shoppers said

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

Even the shoppers who think Whole Foods is too expensive had good things to say about the new Gowanus store. Listen in ...

* “I think it's awesome,” said Cozette Davis, who came by car from her Crown Heights home with her husband Jukorie. “It's worth the drive to get better foods.”

Gowanus Whole Foods: What we saw

The food is almost too pretty to eat.

Here's some eye candy (in the form of photos) from our Saturday visit to the Gowanus Whole Foods.

The folks at already comparison-shopped essentials there and at nearby Union Markets – and found what cost $84 at the former was $115 at the latter. In our more random gawking, we noticed:

* Fruits we've never heard of, like stem and leaf satsuma (which are a type of Mandarin orange).

Veni Vidi Vici: Whole Foods takes Gowanus

Going. Like. Gangbusters.

Business is booming at Brooklyn's first Whole Foods Market, which has had a month to settle in on the shores of that oddly alluring Superfund site, the Gowanus Canal.

We know. We checked for ourselves.

We spent Saturday, Jan. 18, at Third and 3rd, as the upscale publicly-held grocer's new location on Third Avenue and 3rd Street is called – uninvited and unaccompanied by anyone from Whole Foods.

What with massive flight cancellations at area airports Tuesday, your best bet for an escape is the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

OPINION: Freestanding emergency rooms: advice from a former asthma patient

Recently, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported on two proposals for the troubled Long Island College Hospital: The Fortis-NYU-Lutheran plan and the Brooklyn Hospital Center plan. Among other things, both of them feature what could be described as “freestanding emergency rooms.”
