ON THIS DAY in 1923, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “War on Gasoline Prices Spreads Over the Nation.” The article reviewed national gasoline prices and reported on recent state gas reductions. “Gasoline today is selling at 15.4 cents in Chicago, 14.25 cents in Omaha, 15.9 cents in Kansas City, 22 cents in Louisville, Ky., 11 cents in Dallas, Texas, and from 13 to 16 cents in other parts of Texas…” the article reported. New York was not listed as one of the states making a cut in gasoline prices at the time.
