Renowned author and political analyst Donna Brazile will be appearing at Medgar Evers College to discuss “The Fierce Urgency of Now: Crisis in America.” Brazile will be offering her views and opinions regarding the current world situation under President Donald Trump.

Brazile, the interim chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), will address a wide-ranging set of issues facing Americans today including health care reform, climate change, immigration and rising income inequality. The most pressing issues facing America have something fundamental in common: the new social paradigm.

Brazile was born in 1959 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She earned her bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology from Louisiana State University in 1981, and was a fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. After graduating from Louisiana State, Brazile moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for advocacy groups and helped initiate the campaign to make Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a federal holiday.

Brazile was the first African-American to manage a major presidential campaign working for Al Gore’s presidential bid in 2000. She also worked on several other Democratic presidential campaigns including Jesse Jackson’s in 1984, Walter Mondale’s in 1984 and Richard Gephardt’s in 1988.

She is the author of “Cooking with Grease: Stirring the Pots in American Politics.” She is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University. Brazile has been a columnist for Ms. Magazine, and a contributor to Essence Magazine and O, The Oprah Magazine.

She was also an on-air contributor on CNN, and on ABC, where she would regularly appear on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

In October 2016, Brazile was caught up in a controversy surrounding an email message she had sent to John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, and Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director, regarding a question Clinton might be asked during a debate in the Democratic Primary.

Brazile was the commencement speaker at Medgar Evers in May 2016.

“Her message at our 2016 commencement ceremony is similar to her message to be delivered on Wednesday: There is an urgent need to pay attention to your education and not be distracted by the noise and tension of today’s negative political climate or be discouraged from pressing for social justice,” Lakisha Murray, chief of staff at Medgar Evers said of Brazile.

Wallace L. Ford II, chair of the Department of Public Administration, called the visit “an incredibly timely teachable moment.

“The visit of Donna Brazile to Medgar Evers College is vitally important as she will provide the College community with a real time perspective on the historic challenges and opportunities that the Trump administration presents,” he said.

Brazile will speak at Medgar Evers College’s Founders Auditorium, 1650 Bedford Ave., on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
