~JON HAMM, NORAH JONES TO ATTEND BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK WATERFRONT GALA: Just a few yards away from the outdoor public basketball courts with the best views in the city, a gala on Thursday night will celebrate the best and brightest — and most generous donors — who have helped build Brooklyn Bridge Park into what it is today. The fifth annual Brooklyn Black Tie Ball and After Party, hosted by Emmy Award-winning actorJon Hamm and featuring a performance by nine-time Grammy-winner Norah Jones, will take place on Pier 2 and will include a cocktail reception on the promenade and a seated three-course meal. Guests will enjoy this extraordinary event with the magnificent Manhattan skyline and sweeping views of New York Harbor as the backdrop. And to prepare you for the ball, here’s Hamm’s recent interview with The Times(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle and NYT)

~HEIGHTS PROPERTY BREAKS BOROUGH PRICE RECORD: An 8,500-square-foot, five-bedroom Brooklyn Heights apartment has become thepriciest listing in Brooklyn. One of the largest apartments in the borough, the space at 360 Furman St. in One Brooklyn Bridge Park, has wide unobstructed waterfront views. The home was originally priced at $32 million in 2014 with an extra floor and two parking spaces, as opposed to the current listing’s one. “The other most important thing that makes it so iconic is that basically every single room, every single bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, all of the common living spaces and most of the bathrooms, have a full-on waterfront view,” listing agent Deborah Rieders of Corcoran Group said. The duplex was created by CEO of Alloy Development Jared Della Valle(via Mansion Global)

~BROOKLYN DELIVERY FIRM ALIGNS WITH WAL-MART: Wal-Mart is sharpening its same-day delivery skills through the acquisition of a small, Brooklyn company. Wal-Mart said Tuesday that Parcel has learned to deftly navigate densely populated areas and get groceries to customers fast. That last leg is key for all retailers in a transformed landscape where the ability to deliver at speed and with low costs brings tremendous advantages in fending off competitors like Amazon.com. In recent weeks, politicians and community leaders like Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Andrew Hoan have made pushes to bring Amazon’s proposed headquarters to the borough. Three years ago, Amazon surpassed Wal-Mart as the most valuable retailer in the U.S. and this year it acquired Whole Foods Market. (AP via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~BROOKLYN SINGER WOWS JUDGES ON ‘THE VOICE’: Brooklyn fans have all the more reason to watch “The Voice” on NBC this season. Kathrina Feigh, a Philippines-born contestant who now calls Brooklyn home, wowed the celebrity judges on the latest episode with her rendition of Jessie J’s “Big White Room.” Feigh’s performance, which took place during the first round of the reality show’s blind auditions, set off a turf war between judges Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton, both of whom wanted her on their team. Feigh secured a spot on “Team Jennifer” and is now looking forward to competing for the grand prize, $100,000 and a record contract. “WOW WHAT A THRILLING EXPERIENCE!” Feigh wrote on her Facebook page. “I’ve been dreaming of this moment ever since the first time I picked up a microphone when I was a little girl in the Philippines.” (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~BROOKLYN RABBI HELD AT GUNPOINT BY VERMONT POLICE: A Brooklyn rabbi was thrown to the ground and held at gunpoint on the side of a Vermont highway after he was caught speeding. Vermont police said RabbiBerl Fink tried to elude the police by driving for more than four miles before pulling over. Fink reportedly didn’t know he was being pulled over. “We’re talking about normal people. What in the world are you doing to them? It’s out of hand. This shouldn’t have happened in any state in the United States of America,” said Yehuda Fink, the man’s son. Yehuda said he thought his family was part of a terrorist attack during the late-night stop. While the police stood by their decision, New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind said the event was “so clearly unnecessary.” (via NYDN)
