Bestselling and award-winning children’s musician Laurie Berkner treated the pre-K class at Bay Ridge’s Our Saviour’s Lutheran Preschool to a lively concert, which featured performances of some of her biggest hits and a reading from her new book “Pillowland.”

“Victor Vito,” “We Are the Dinosaurs” and “Buzz Buzz” were just a few of the songs Berkner sang at the Nov. 8 show, which was organized in collaboration with Bay Ridge’s The BookMark Shoppe.

The popular singer, songwriter and author has released 11 bestselling, award-winning albums, was the first artist ever to perform in music videos on Nick Jr. and has appeared regularly on the network’s “Jack’s Big Music Show.”

Berkner began her career as a children’s recording artist in 1997, personally filling orders for her first album “Whaddaya Think of That?” from her Manhattan living room, while still working as a preschool music teacher.

Her second album, 1998’s “Buzz Buzz” helped cement her popularity and one year later things began to move quickly with the release of the “Victor Vito” album. Ten years later in 2010, Berkner had amassed enough material for a greatest hits project, “The Best of the Laurie Berkner Band.”

Berkner and her band have appeared on the “Today Show,” “Good Morning America” and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” The band’s first DVD, 2006’s “We Are…The Laurie Berkner Band” is approaching quadruple-platinum status.

Widely recognized as “the queen of children’s music,” Berkner has partnered with illustrators Camille Garoche and Ben Clanton to create companion storybooks to her hit songs “Pillowland” and “We Are the Dinosaurs.”

Berkner read “Pillowland” to the pre-K class at Our Saviour’s and performed songs for the kids including “Victor Vito,” “We Are the Dinosaurs” and “Buzz Buzz.”

“Our Saviours’ pre-K students joined in singing several of Laurie’s interactive songs and participated in a read along of ‘Pillowland,’” said Geraldine Dasaro, director of education at Our Saviour’s. “Laurie also took questions from her delighted audience and autographed copies of the books.”
