Local nonprofit “Red Tortuguera” is helping the turtles survive by relocating recently laid eggs to a protected area of the beach to evade poachers, then collecting the hatchlings to keep them safe from bird attacks and releasing them as a group every Saturday at sunset.

ALGERIA — Macron Seeks to Ease Tension: French President Emmanuel Macron holds the hands of a woman as he meets residents in Algiers on Wednesday. Macron traveled to Algeria for a one-day working visit aimed at boosting the security and economic cooperation between the two countries. Macron hopes to “reshape” the troubled relationship between Algeria and France, complicated by the countries’ shared history.

CALIFORNIA — Wildfires Rage: A Los Angeles County firefighter battles a wildfire in Lake View Terrace on Tuesday. Ferocious winds in Southern California have whipped up explosive wildfires, burning a psychiatric hospital and scores of other structures.

The 28-year-old, who has worked at the open-air market for 12 years, is dismayed that a market which provides meat to most of the capital’s supermarkets and restaurant, is so unregulated.

HAITI – Corruption March: A protester chants against government corruption during a march in response to the findings of a Senate investigation of the PetroCaribe fund, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Tuesday. The commission found government corruption resulting in the spending and mismanagement of nearly 2 billion U.S. dollars. 

UKRAINE – Tear Gas: Police use tear gas as they clash with supporters of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili in Kiev, Ukraine, Tuesday. Hundreds of protesters chanting “Kiev, rise up!” blocked Ukrainian police as they tried to arrest former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday.
