Santa Claus took time out from his busy schedule to come down from the North Pole to visit with children at Interfaith Medical Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant and it proved to be a memorable day.

Hospital officials said the kids were thrilled to see Santa Claus when he entered the conference room at the hospital at 1545 Atlantic Ave. on the morning of Dec. 15. As a special treat, the conference room was decorated by volunteers to look like a Winter Wonderland.

Children from neighborhood schools and local daycare centers were invited to come to Interfaith Medical Center to take part in the festivities and to meet Santa Claus.

The kids posed for photos with Santa Claus and received gifts.

Interfaith Medical Center also scheduled another holiday happening, a Secret Santa event, on Dec. 19. Hospital officials were prepared to distribute 300 gift cards to local families to help ease parents’ financial worries.

Interfaith Auxiliary, an organization of hospital volunteers, organized the two events.

“Winter Wonderland and Secret Santa have become holiday traditions for Interfaith,” Interfaith Medical Center CEO and President LaRay Brown said in a statement. “For many families, it’s not easy to provide gifts for their children and what should be a joyous time can become stressful. Thanks to our sponsors and the Interfaith Auxiliary, we’re able to relieve some of that burden and bring joy to youngsters in our community during this season of giving.”
